宮島彫りは木製品の木地をいかしながら、絵画のように繊細な彫刻が特徴です。
今回紹介する作品は飾り盆「正面鳥居」といいます。
従来からある宮島の構図は大鳥居を宮島から斜めに見て彫刻されていますが、
この作品は大鳥居を正面から見た構図です。
なにか、新しいものを・・・と伝統工芸士広川和男氏が考案し作成したものです。
遊覧船で大鳥居をくぐり厳島神社を参拝する観光も人気コースですが、
この作品を見ると、自分も遊覧船から大鳥居、厳島神社を見ているようです。
材質は栃材で、栃の木地模様が瀬戸内の穏やかな波のようでもあり、
弥山を見下ろす雲のようでもあり・・・・自然素材のなせる技！！
この飾り盆はサイズも１５センチ位のものから３４センチ位と各種あるので、
飾る場所も選ばず、安価なのも魅力的（5,000円～）
それでいてしっかりと浮かし彫りが施されています。
